Cop under a week’s remand

SEREMBAN: The policeman who shot and wounded a 17-year-old youth believed to be a Mat Rempit has been put under remand for a week to assist in investigations.

Negri Sembilan police chief Senior Asst Comm (I) Datuk Osman Salleh said police had classified the case under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.

“As of now, we are investigating the case for attempted murder as the policeman did not follow the standard procedure on when he is allowed to discharge his weapon,” he said, adding that the police had already recorded a statement from the policeman.

The 20-year-old policeman, attached with the Rahang station near here, has been in service for one-and-a-half years.

Form Five student Mohd Azizi Aziz, who was riding a friend’s motorcycle without a licence, was shot in the abdomen when he failed to stop his vehicle despite being repeatedly warned by two policemen in a patrol car during a chase at about 3.30am on Saturday.

He was then rushed to the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital where he underwent surgery.

Osman said the police would question the boy when he was better and that they would also investigate claims by the victim’s father Aziz Omar that his son had been assaulted.

At the hospital, Aziz said his son had regained consciousness and was on a liquid diet, although he was still too weak to talk.

“I was happy to see he opened his eyes. The doctor told me that he also has a slight injury to his liver,” said the cook at a factory canteen.

He also described his eldest son as an obedient child and hoped that the incident would not affect his preparations for SPM this year.

Aziz said he would go ahead with his intention to take legal action against the policeman and the force.

“Although my son does not have a valid licence, the cop should not have opened fire. My son sat for the test once but did not pass. In fact, he was planning to sit for another one.”

Wei, why la remand the cop? He is doing us a big favour leh.... tak kan you all dont know how scary those Mat Rempits is?? Small Cow and i encountered them when we were travelling from Paka back to Aunty Ruby's and it was pretty scary leh. Somemore there has been numerous reports of Mat Rempits rob and attack ppl. so what's wrong with getting rid one of them? :P

yea, i seriously think Mat Rempits are total sampah masyarakat. see how his father talk about him? saying he is a 'good boy'? good boy my ass la. it's so obvious he is a failure in being a father when he dont even know his son is up to no good!

but hor, Mat Rempits are like pests that we can get rid of. u kill one, 10 others come out.
